How to put on your Mei Tai

Fold front over (if your baby is still short enough and you need to or want to).

Tie bottom straps around waist like an apron.

Grab straps and cross them across back making sure they are nice and flat. A srunched up strap or one that is high up on your neck will be uncomfortable.
Tighten the straps. A good way to do that is as you pull a strap tighter bounce the baby at the same time. It will really cinch the straps good and the tighter the straps are the closer baby will be and the more comfortable you will be.
OR
Tie straps in a knot. If you are putting baby's legs inthe carrier you MUST tie the straps at the middle of his back for security. If legs are out, middle of the back or under the bum, whatever you find more comfortable.
You may have to readjust a bit at first. This is totally normal so don't sweat it. Once you are experienced wearing your baby it will come a lot easier.
I also strongly recommend the dvd t2t (tummy to tummy) It is amazing!
If you have any questions, let me know. And be patient with yourself at first, it takes a few tries to feel totally comfortable.
Tips and Hints for Your Mei Tai
I make my Mei Tais with wide straps. I have a few reasons for that. I've tried MTs with narrow straps and after awhile they tend to dig into my shoulders, especiall in a back carry. Also, I do not like the look of them when the straps are across my chest. The make me look busty in a bad way, to put it politely. The wide straps hug the shoulders better and do not dig in at all and they look very nice spread across a bust when baby is in a back carry.
I make a tall bodied Mei Tai so that you can wear it longer. This will fit a child up to about 35lbs. I have put my 3 year old in them and they feel fine. If it is too long for your baby simply fold over the bottom a time (or two) and tie it on. I have pictures showing what I mean if you have questions. With a young baby, the body might be rather wide. You can do two things. Tuck baby's legs into the MT in a "froggy" position or take a piece of yarn and tie it at the bottom of the body of the MT. This will make the seat more narrow. I don't find that necessary, but some people prefer it.
Baby should have his bum lower than his legs in a MT. What I mean is when you have baby in the mt and it's all tied, pull his knees up a bit. This is a good position for his posture and his hips and I find it very comfy for me too.
Give a baby time to get used to being worn, especially older babies. Try a MT for the first time when baby is fed and rested and pretty happy. Once baby is in start moving around. Pat his back, talk to him, make it fun. Give it a little time for both of you to get used to it. The first time I tried on a MT I was not impressed. The 3rd time I tried it on I was in love!
